Personal Coaching is Different than Psychotherapy
Coaching is an ongoing relationship between the professional coach and the client, which focuses on the client taking action toward the realization of his or her vision, goals or desires. Coaching uses a process of inquiry and personal discovery to build the client’s level of awareness and responsibility and provides the client with structure, support and feedback. While psychotherapy focuses more on the past, underlying concerns, and mental illness, coaching is an action oriented approach that focuses on the present and future as a means to assist a highly functioning person towards excellence. If issues arise in coaching that are best dealt with in a therapeutic context, the client will be provided with appropriate referrals to licensed mental health professionals.
